Award winning plein air painter

Mark Buck ARSMA, studied for a degree in illustration at Bower Ashton Art College in Bristol. He has illustrated for magazines, newspapers, books, advertising hoardings and played guitar at the Jazz Cafe in London, on occasion with Bo Diddley.

 

Mark paints watercolour in an energetic and loose style, mostly plein air. He uses St Cuthbert’s Millford 300gsm cold pressed watercolour paper or Moleskine sketchbooks. Painting using Schmincke and daniel Smith watercolours.


His paintings often feature early morning or evening light with strong shadows and atmospheric distances.

 

Mark is an associate member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and is represented by galleries on the Isle of Wight, Swanage and Petworth. He has exhibited with The Royal Watercolour Society, The Royal Society of Marine Artists, Plas Brondanw Gallery and The TALP Open Exhibition at Patchings. In 2022 his watercolour, Porthmadog Harbour, was awarded the Artist Purchase Prize. It is now on permanent exhibition.

 

In 2022 I was made an associate member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists

An absolute delight to be voted into The Royal Society of Marine Artists. I am now an associate member and looking forward to joining in with this wonderful society's events and exhibitions.

 

In 2022 my watercolour Porthmadog Harbour was awarded the Artist Purchase Prize at TALP 2022.

The painting is now on permanent exhibition at Patchings.

 

 

 

2016, comissioned by National trust Petworth House to paint a landscape of Petworth House and Park which has been used to promote the Capability Brown Exhibition.

 

2017, short-listed for the Royal Society

My painting, St Martin de de Ré Dawn was chosen for exhibition and is the first time I have exhibited at this marvellous gallery.

 

Winner at Artist and Leisure Painter TALP 2020

This year two of my paintings were accepted for exhibition  and I have won the £1700 Artist Exhibition award and the £250 Colart/Winsor & Newton award. Thank you Artist Magazine for this, I am so pleased! It has been quite difficult  with lockdown and this was most welcome.

 

Oriel Brondanw Open 2019

I am very proud to say three of my plein air paintings have been selected for exhibition at the Oriel Brondanw Open in Snowdonia. Plas Brondanw was the home of Clough Williams-Ellis the architect of Portmeirion, it now houses an stunning art space and a garden that has to be seen. This is their first open and promises to be a superb exhibition.
